Website Design for Jennifer Barker Real Estate

WordPress Website Design + Branding + Email Marketing Platform Setup + Email Newsletter Support

After working in the Mammoth Lakes real estate business for several years, Jennifer Barker was ready to build a brand so she could expand her reach. When Jen came to me, she shared colors she wanted to use and some basic ideas of what she was looking for in terms of design and content.

The top goal: keep it simple and easy for her to manage. We landed on creating a simple brand, a simple website with just a few pages, and an email newsletter template to match her website’s brand so she could start sending a monthly newsletter out to her network.

Developing the Brand

Jen wanted a script font and liked dark blues and light neon greens. We settled on tried and true font Spartan, a script accent font, a dark blue for the main brand color, and a light, fun green as an accent color. Jen wanted to lean into mountain motifs rather than the standard house-shaped icons and graphics on many real estate websites.

Building the WordPress Website

We initially talked about integrating property listings with the site, but based on Jen’s goals we decided to table listings for later. On WordPress the sky is the limit, so listings could easily be added in down the line.

We built with my WordPress go-tos — GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks. As with all websites I build, we filled in basic SEO details, considered user experience and next steps on each page, included all website accessibility basics, and set up basic analytics so Jen can keep tabs on her site’s traffic.

Setting Up an Email Newsletter System

Our next step was getting an email marketing platform set up with branding that matched her website. For this project I used MailerLite — a simple (free) solution that works well and doesn’t have any unnecessary bells and whistles. I set up all email forms and an email template Jen could use for monthly emails to her contacts.

I’m late getting this site into my portfolio, but Jen has now sent a full year of monthly email newsletters with Mammoth real estate news and updates, and her emails have consistently high open rates and click rates. Her whole brand has a cohesive look, and she’s continuing to build her reputation both on- and off-line.
