You can build your own website… but what are you missing?
If you have some tech skills or interest and are excited to build your own website, you absolutely can. Us website designers believe in our work and our craft, but many of us also recognize that the high price tag from a professional website designer is out of reach for many small business owners, especially if you’re just starting out.
With more user-friendly platforms like Squarespace and Wix, and updated tools that make WordPress easier to use for non-coders, you can get a pretty decent looking website up pretty quickly and with a fairly small budget.
The downside: there are things that are a dead giveaway that you built your own website. So much of a business’s reputation is built in what people find on Google — when they stumble upon your website, is it going to take forever to load? Did you forget to edit the mobile view and things look all wonky on their phone? Are they trying to figure out how to contact you but you don’t have a contact page? ADD A COUPLE MORE EXAMPLES
My DIY Website Companion Course gets you up to speed on everything you don’t know that you don’t know. It’s not the shiny fun part of building a website — the great designs, figuring out how to talk about yourself or your business — but it’s all the stuff that you need to be aware of so that you can be a responsible, empowered website owner. This course will help you avoid getting blindsided, being seen as amateur or DIY, and give you the tools you need to feel confident that your website is working as hard as it can for you.
